| Overview Synopsis: An old woman buys a pig but cannot get it home because her path is blocked by a stile. She demands help from a whole string of objects and creatures but only when she has given the cat a saucer of milk do they all do as she has asked... Useage: The story is full of repetition which helps children to remember the narrative and sequence the images. Young children enjoy choosing and sequencing the pictures round an interactive whiteboard. This could be completed over several sessions or the narrative can easily be abridged. The children can discuss what they will say for each picture and record their narrative at the board, possibly using headphones with a boom mike. Photo Story automatically puts movement in for each image and this can be left alone unless it is really unsuitable or the children suggest an alternative. Older children could be allocated sections of the story which, when finally saved, can easily be put together using video editing software such as Movie Maker. Adding titles, credits and music is easier in Movie Maker too... The video tutorials support children working independently on Photo Story. Curricular Links: At its heart this is a Literacy Activity with a strong ICT component. It would be possible to replace some of the pictures with photographs of children's paintings, perhaps using the Movie Kit images for inspiration. It would also be possible to include vocal or instrumental sound effects as part of the narrative. The children could study the settings for geographical features, clues about time of day, seasons etc. It would also be interesting to discuss how long ago they think the photographs were taken. Many of the pictures are photomontages - you could discuss with the children which pictures are "real" and which not... |
