Hardware
Each delegate should bring their teacher laptop (it must be running Windows XP or Vista). It will be helpful to have run Disk Defragmenter (Start/All programs/ Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter). Don't forget the power cable!
In Week 1 it will be useful (but not essential) to bring the best digital stills camera you have available for classroom use with connection cables etc. It will also be useful to have a microphone – either built-in or plug-in. I have a few I can loan if necessary.
In Week 2 it will be essential to have a computer microphone. Again I have a few for loan.
In Week 3 it will be useful to bring a camera capable of filming video clips and connection cables etc. If you are bringing a Digital Blue camera make sure you have the stand and the software installed on your laptop.
Software
The following may look complicated... DON'T PANIC
All the software we will use is free. It will be entirely possible to install the software during the course - but takes time we could be using for more interesting things! If you don't 'do' downloading speak nicely to your technician if you have one...
For Week 1 you will need Photo Story 3. Download Photo Story here
While you are installing Photo Story you may be told to update your Windows Media Player. You can download Media Player 10 here
You may also be told you need to update DirectX. Download a recent version here.
For Week 2 You will need Audacity. Click here. While you're on this page download the LAME MP3 Encoder too. I'll tell you why later...
For Week 3 you will need Movie Maker 2 or Movie Maker Vista. You will almost certainly have this already if your laptop is reasonably new – it may be hiding in Start/All Programs/Accessories somewhere. If not, click here to download.
For Week 4 you will only need the software mentioned above, but you may like to look at my links page – Pivot is highly recommended for example.
