Learning through Film
Magic Lantern is
dedicated to the belief that

Magic Lantern : Learning through Film teaches children and adults to become makers of film using inexpensive equipment and simple, free software. The technology to do this has only become truly accessible for all in this century, with the availability of digital media. But making films is far more than a technological exercise - it is an approach to learning - creative, active, integrative and inclusive. For some, learning these skills is like learning to speak, or write - it provides them with a voice; and for most, it is a richly rewarding experience. Mary Hanafin
Irish Minister for Education and Science, 19/10/2006 "Film is a powerful and engaging medium which involves children using all their skills to create an original work. By producing a film from the very start of the process children become active learners. Creating the film projects means that students engage in a hands on way with the curriculum - through creative writing, drama, visual arts, designing sets, communication and team working. It really is a truly wonderful learning opportunity for children, giving them a chance to enrich their classroom experiences." ![]() |
